House on Mango stree
This book is very difficult for me to post on. I really don't understand why the author wrote the book in such short and choppy segments with just a little information on each character and no real plot being followed. What I do know is that the author did want to give us in sight on the way Mexican and Latina women live in America. The one character that I was really interested in was mamacita. I thought it was interesting that her husband brought her over to America and she never left her house. She locked herself in her house and never wanted to leave because she may have felt like if she did she would lose her identity. Even more interesting was that her husband wanted to force her to speak english. I think this shows that Mamacita felt like she was losing her heritage and did not know how to embrace her Hispanic identity and the American culture she was living in. I think that this may be a problem with many immigrants in America today. They are not sure how what to embrace in American culture without throwing out there own culture.
